Choose the Scope of Your IML Purchase
Are you planning equipment for a factory or ordering decorated containers? Start with the deliverable you need. A coordinated production system, an individual robot or mold, and finished packaging follow different quotation paths.
| What you need to buy | Selection route and quotation scope |
|---|---|
| An IML production system | Use this page to discuss coordinated label handling, in-mold placement and container takeout. Identify the new and retained machine, mold, robot tooling and downstream equipment. Agree who supplies each item and handles its connections, installation and project acceptance; a system enquiry does not mean every item is included. |
| A robot or mold for your line | Compare the IML robot model references or review IML mold requirements. Name the item to quote and the equipment you intend to retain. Keep tooling, access and interface work explicit; an individual equipment quotation is not automatically a complete production-cell proposal. |
| Finished decorated containers | Start with custom in-mold labeled containers when you need packaging supplied. Send the container and artwork revisions, intended use, quantity, lid or closure requirements and sample-approval reference. Include machine, robot and layout details when your request also covers tooling or production-system integration. |
In your IML engineering enquiry, state whether you need a system, individual equipment or finished containers. Identify the deliverables, retained equipment and responsibilities to be priced together before comparing proposals.
Review IML system scope with product/label drawings, machine and mold documents. Identify supplied and retained equipment, interface responsibilities and sample checks to agree before acceptance.
Compare Label Separation and Handoff Geometry
Before comparing magazine capacity or robot motion, show how one physical label leaves its stack and reaches the insertion tooling. Use the same label outline in the magazine and EOAT drawings. Distinguish the separation movement from the later action that holds the label inside the mold.
| Proposed route | Physical interface to compare |
|---|---|
| Lift from an exposed stack | Mark where the pickup tool contacts the first sheet, its approach and withdrawal directions, and the supporting tray. Show the clearance needed for the separated label and any subsequent movement toward the insertion tooling; the stack position alone does not describe that path. |
| Withdraw through a retaining opening | Draw the label relative to the front stop plate and the remaining stack. Identify which edges pass through the opening and when the proposed stack pressure is relieved or restored. Review the extraction movement and the remaining labels’ restraint together, rather than treating the plate as only a storage boundary. |
| Use a preparation-to-insertion handoff | If a separate preparation stage is proposed, show its support or contour surface and the insertion gripper’s receiving position. Identify where the label changes support and which tool withdraws next. Include this transfer in the layout instead of assuming direct pickup by the mold-entry tool. |
MATSIM describes distinct magazine separation sequences; AfiPro describes label preparation and gripper handoff. These are manufacturer examples, not HecosTech component specifications, universal magazine types or confirmed performance.
Connect the proposed interface with the IML robot range, or request an IML system review using the actual label and layout.
Review Label Position After Supply Changes
Specify which label-supply events belong in the system placement review. Keep the label outline, printed artwork and intended position on the molded product tied to the same proposed configuration.
| Review decision | Reference and evidence |
|---|---|
| Position reference | Identify the printed feature and product reference used to judge placement. Record the label cutting outline separately where relevant; alignment of a cut edge alone does not establish the agreed position of the printed artwork. |
| Supply-change conditions | Identify the actual magazine, label or stack changes to include, with the label revision and batch reference where available. Record what stays unchanged in the machine, mold and tooling configuration, and any reset or adjustment used during the review. |
| Before-and-after evidence | Agree comparable observations before and after the selected change, including the relevant product, cavity or label position and measurement reference. Separate a proposed check from an observed result. Retain the sample or image references, adjustments and unresolved placement questions with that configuration. |
BECK’s 2022 label-alignment example discusses position changes associated with magazine changes, label changes and cutting variation within a stack. It is a manufacturer example for defining review conditions. Identify any sensing or correction equipment separately in the actual supply proposal.
Bring the placement references, named supply-change conditions and required records to the machine and mold integration review and your IML system enquiry. Agree the system placement acceptance separately from approval of an individual molded sample.
Prepare Your IML Review Offline
Download the IML selection worksheet (PDF, 2 pages) to record the entry path, mold-open task, product handoff and available machine and mold references. Fill and save a copy in your PDF reader, keeping the drawing references with your project.
The worksheet records planning inputs; it does not confirm a robot model, machine/mold fit, cycle time or acceptance. Leave unverified results blank. Bring the available details to your IML system review, or explore the other engineering review tools.
IML Food Container Project in Indonesia
The video below accompanies HecosTech’s published 2-cavity IML food container project in Indonesia. The case describes label placement and finished-container takeout coordinated with an injection molding machine. Open the case for the project account and its discussion of the printed cup surfaces and receiving pose.
Use this project as an application reference when discussing a similar container. The case does not identify a named catalogue robot model, and the footage is not an acceptance record for another line. Keep the actual machine, mold, label tooling and receiving requirements tied to your own project.
For equipment screening, compare the current IML robot model references. To discuss a complete cell, send your container and label drawings for an IML system review, identifying the equipment you already have and the supply scope you need.
What Can Be Configured for Your Line
Container geometry, label format and decorated faces establish the application. Production labels and the initial packaging formats are defined in the supply scope.
Machine & Mold
New or retained molding equipment can be reviewed for cavity layout, opening, ejection and robot access. Interface work is scoped around the actual machine and mold.
Robot & Tooling
Robot, label-handling tooling and product takeout movements are matched to the agreed container and label formats.
Interfaces & Site
Control connections, safeguarding and installation access are coordinated with the cell layout and equipment documentation. Responsibilities remain explicit for each supplied or retained item.
Downstream Scope
Product release can connect to collection, conveying or stacking where required. The quotation distinguishes new equipment from retained conveyors and third-party connections.
Acceptance & Handover
The proposal identifies trial samples, test records, installation responsibilities and handover requirements for the agreed configuration.

IML System Questions
Clarify the system boundary, existing equipment and acceptance requirements before confirming a configuration.
Is an IML robot the same as an IML system?
An IML robot is one part of the application. The system scope may also include label handling, end-of-arm tooling, removal, collection and equipment interfaces. Agree which items belong in the project before comparing proposals.
Can we use our existing machine and mold?
Existing equipment may be usable, subject to an interface review. Provide machine documents, mold layout, opening and ejection details, available space and controls information. Compatibility must be checked for the actual configuration.
Can you confirm output from a product photograph?
A photograph can start a discussion, but it does not establish output or compatibility. Product and label details, mold layout, machine conditions and an agreed test method are needed before a performance commitment can be reviewed.
What information should I send first?
Send a product drawing or sample photos, label information and the equipment you already have. Include the task, output target, layout constraints and acceptance criteria. Mark any information that is not yet available.
Can I request only the robot or mold?
Yes. Specify whether you need the robot or mold and which equipment will be retained. Review the tooling, machine/mold interfaces and responsibilities for the items included in the quotation.

Plan an IML Automation System Around the Production Cell
An IML solution is planned as a connected production cell, not as a standalone robot. A useful starting discussion covers the packaging format, label requirements, mold layout, injection molding machine interface, product takeout, and the downstream steps that matter to the production flow.
Packaging and label
Review the container, cup, lid, bucket, or other injection-molded packaging format together with the label size, position, and handling requirements.
Mold and machine interface
Coordinate cavity layout, mold access, injection molding conditions, and the handoff points needed for robot operation and product takeout.
Automation scope
Define which parts of label handling, in-mold placement, takeout, inspection, conveying, or downstream handling belong in the project scope.
